Most marketing campaigns (email blasts) are sent from a subdomain or a different domain altogether from the main company domain. Here are a few reasons why it is considered a best practice to do so:
- Protect the main domain’s reputation.
If marketing emails get marked as spam or bounce a lot, you don’t want that to hurt your normal business email. - Less risk from tracking links. Marketing emails often use tracking links; if those links get flagged, it’s better they’re tied to the subdomain, not your main domain.
- Routing and Receiving. Email campaign software should have dedicated routing to receive bounce backs emails to detect issues. If using the main domain, the MX record would be occupied by the main domain instead.
When Subscribers Reply to Your Newsletter
If you want subscribers to reply to a main company email / support email, you can always set a “Reply-to” setting in the email app. This way when people hit reply, it can go to a main company email box.
